Georgia Breaks Record for Early Voting

More than 1.1 million Georgians have cast their ballots in this year’s midterm elections, according to data from the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office.

The state had also received nearly 50,000 absentee ballots as of early Tuesday morning, marking a record year for early voting, according to the data.

This year’s ballot includes the race for governor, a seat in the U.S. Senate and several statewide offices. Election Day is Nov. 3.

Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff is facing Republican Mike Collins for a seat in the U.S. Senate. According to a poll by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Ossoff holds a lead over Collins in the race.

Nearly 48% of voters surveyed said they would vote to reelect Ossoff, while 40% said they supported Collins, according to the poll.

The race could have national implications because Republicans hold a narrow majority in the Senate. The outcome could affect the balance of power in the chamber.

Ossoff won his Senate seat in 2021 after defeating Republican David Perdue. Mike Collins is running for the Senate after serving in the Georgia House of Representatives 10th District since 2022.

Early voting continues through Oct. 30. Voters also can cast their ballots during early voting hours on Saturday.
