The Sir Shop, a locally owned men’s clothing store located in the Statesboro mall, will close by the end of 2026 after serving the community for more than five decades.
The Sir Shop has been a specialty retailer since its launch in 1971 by Jim Long and Robert Lamb. It initially opened as a traditional men’s specialty clothing retailer, selling everything from casual clothing to suits and formalwear to renting out suits for formal occasions such as weddings and prom.
Following its opening in 1971, Keith Boyett returned to Statesboro after college and bought into The Sir Shop in 1985 when the business had moved from the mall to the corner of the Brannen Street and Gentilly Avenue. The business eventually found its way back to the mall and was ran by Boyett until his passing in November 2024.
Tim Coleman, the owner of the Sir Shop for the past two years with his wife, Erin, made the announcement on social media Oct. 6, 2026.
The announcement included that while The Sir Shop is saying goodbye to Statesboro, the brands that were part of the local shop are moving to Burlap in Metter and that the owners will put their energy into ensuring Burlap is bigger and better than ever.
