Hidden Treasures Across Georgia Southern

It is easy to walk to and from classes without batting an eye to all of the surrounding areas and places that can be explored on Georgia Southern University’s campus. Eagle News reporter Brenna O’Connor went around campus to showcase all of those hidden gems that most students pass without even realizing it.

The Center for Wildlife Education features animals galore. This is the home to Georgia Southern mascot Freedom II and various other birds of prey. One of the exhibits is the invasive species exhibit where the center showcases all the invasive species that are found within Georgia and how they got to the state.

The Botanical Gardens includes over 10 acres full of florals and many walking trails. These plants are all native to the Southeast United States. The garden has signs that can be found around the center that inform visitors about everything from plant upkeep to the process of pollination. The garden’s goal is to empower environmental stewardship through knowledge and engagement.

The Georgia Southern Museum has rotating exhibits and its flagship exhibit that is up permanently, focusing on Georgia’s coastal plain and how it has evolved over the years. The museum features many additional items to see, like the georgiacetus vogtlensis fossil and the mosasaur fossil that hangs from the ceiling.
